Fuel Testing Equipment, Portable - Petrospec - Marsap Services offers a portable fuel testing equipment introduced by Petrospec Inc of USA. This equipment is used for checking various parameters, which will enable the detection of adulteration in fuel, primarily petrol. Fuel is normally adulterated with components like naphtha, kerosene and benzene. Elements like benzene are extremely harmful if present in greater quantities. Even the oil industry is toying with the idea, of reducing benzene content to less than 1%. The usual method for checking octane number is with an octane engine. This instrument costs more than a crore of rupees besides taking time about an hour for each test - and having additional running costs per test. Not only this, but also it cannot be carried around in the field. One of the analyzers brought out by Petrospec can give an approximate octane content in 2-3 minutes with a fair degree of accuracy. This can be transported in mobile labs and can work on a car battery. It gives the entire break-up of chemical components, which determine the octane number, unlike other portable equipment, which just give an octane engine. The models available are: Petrospec GS 100 - analyser for benzene in petrol; Petrospec GS 300 - analyser for benzene, total aromatic, olefins and saturates; Petrospec GS 360 - analyzer for benzene, total aromatic, olefins, saturates and total oxygenates; and Petrospec GS 1000 - analyser for benzene, total aromatics, olefins, saturates and total oxygenates and octane number. Also available are portable analysers for diesel and jet fuel.
