To support today's technological advancements, the need for compact, reliable fastening systems is becoming more critical and challenging, needs such as sheet metal too thin to tap, minimal space, secure grounding, sealing, anti-vibration characteristics and serviceability call for a clever approach to modern assembly. There are three technologies: i) Self clinching fasteners - these are strong, reusable threads in thin sheet metal. Similar self- broaching fasteners are also available for PC boards. Both these types install into a round hole either punched or drilled, common products being clinch nuts, standoffs, studs, etc, from Captive Fastener Corp, USA; ii) Blind riveting solutions - these are used to join two sheets without spotwelding, without screwing, without bolting, etc. When one wants to join two sheets, but does not have access from behind, the solution is blind riveting - drill or punch a hole, insert the blind rivet and with the help of a tool, riveting is performed. Imported stocks of blind rivets of material aluminium, steel, stainless steel are available, and to suit all strength requirements. These rivets are imported from Australia, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore; and iii) Blind rivet nut solutions - blind rivet nuts or thin sheet nut inserts/nutserts are used as an insert with internal threads where one does not have access from the backside of an assembly.
